Castelnau-le Lez is the eighth commune of the Hérault region, and is situated in the immediate outskirts of Montpellier, 5 minutes from the A9 and only 10 minutes from its main railway station and airport.
Covering an area of 1100 hectares, it still has more than 15 000 inhabitants.
Throughout history, from its origins to the present day, Castelnau has been known as a united and dynamic community.
The town hall is conveniently located and is open daily to serve its local residents. It offers modern and efficient services with economic development, nature conservation and management of urbanisation being some of our priorities.
Conservation of our local heritage is of utmost importance (an 11th century church still remains). Encouraging commercial enterprise (a fifth amusement park has been built), creating social infrastructures (such as a children’s centre…), sports facilities (Sports complex, bowling alley, sports halls…)and high quality educational establishments (8 infant and junior schools, one senior school and two high schools)are all high priorities for us.
The creation of a second tramway line with a further 8 stations, will create further access points into the town and will embed modern technology in our municipality.
Castelnau-le-Lez therefore offers all the advantages of an expanding local community whilst retaining its many traditions, heritage and culture as well as its life and soul.
